Future-Proof Your Career: Getting Hired in 2025

Writer: HirehootHirehoot

It’s the end of the first full week of 2025, and it is already shaping up to be an interesting year. Mathematically, it is a perfect square year — 45x45. We won’t see the next one for another 91 years, with 46x46 in 2116.

And when it comes to the job hunt, it’s shaping up to be an interesting year too.

The World Economic Forum has released their Future of Jobs Report. It finds that, because of all the transformations happening across the world of work, the next five years will see net total employment growth of 7%, with a total of 14% new jobs globally being partially countered by the destruction of 8% of jobs.

That’s a lot of change. But what does it mean for getting hired in 2025?

  • Skills matter. While we can expect a lot of skills to become outdated in the next few years, others are going to become even more important.

  • Technology trends—most especially AI—will be major drivers of business transformation.

  • Tech roles are booming—especially across big data and AI—while clerical roles are on the decline.

Which Skills Will Get You Hired in 2025?

Businesses are increasingly on the hunt for certain skills. The top five from the World Economic Forum report are:

  • Analytical thinking

  • Resilience, flexibility and agility

  • Leadership and social influence

  • Creative thinking

  • Motivation and self-awareness

Others on the list include empathy, curiosity and service orientation.

This list covers a wide range of interpersonal and cognitive skills as well as elements of personality and drive, like self-awareness and resilience. Looking at this list, it’s clear employers are looking for adaptable people who can thrive in changing situations, and take responsibility for their actions, regardless of their seniority.

Fortunately for job seekers, these are transferable skills.

Top tip: when you’re updating your CV or LinkedIn profile, think about how you can use your experience to highlight these skills. Examples of data-driven decision making, overcoming obstacles, getting support for projects and reflecting on your own goals and performance will be key

Making AI work for you

AI tools are everywhere. Understanding the key talking points and opinions will stand you in good stead as businesses consider whether to adopt AI tools. Knowing what tools are out there - and familiarising yourself on how to use them - is increasingly important across a widening range of roles.

Top tip: While AI tools can speed up day-to-day admin or get you started on a tricky email, the skills employers are increasingly looking for (like analytical, creative thinking) aren’t ones AI can replace. Resist the temptation to overuse AI in your CV or cover letters. Across the hiring process, potential employers want to get to know you, not an AI tool.

Finding your next role

As the world of work changes, there will be disruption. Some organisations are encouraging everyone back to the office five days a week, some employees never had the option of working from home. Some companies are making redundancies, others are opening new offices. Sometimes you get lucky finding a new opportunity, sometimes things seem impossibly hard. Things are always changing: in that everything is the same as it has always been.

Top tip: the path to getting hired in 2025 might seem overwhelming, but taking it step by step can make it more manageable. Update your CV and LinkedIn profile to reflect your experience and skills. Apply to roles you can get excited about—and tailor your application accordingly—it will show! Above all, be patient with yourself throughout the process: with persistence and a clear focus, you'll find the opportunity that’s right for you. And remember, Hirehoot is here to help you find your next opportunity!
